The 2011 Bipolar Lives Scholarship, with increased college money of $1,000, has opened!

Check out the winning entries from the 2009 Bipolar Lives Scholarship and 2010 Bipolar Lives Scholarship to inspire and guide you.

(Use your head! If you first check out the 2009 and 2010 winning scholarship essays, you will have a better idea of what the judges are looking for when they award this college money. Like any financial aid, this scholarship is competitive and awards money for college based purely on merit.)

How to enter for the 2011 Scholarship

If you need money for college and have some great info on bipolar disorder to share, then $1000 cash to use as financial aid / college money could be yours.

The rules are simple:

1. Use the web form at the bottom of this web page to submit your entry. After you have submitted your entry using the web form, download, complete, and email this separate entry form as a MS Word attachment (instructions below and on the form itself so open it and read it).

The 2011 Bipolar Lives Scholarship opened for entries in July 2010.

2. You must be a student enrolled in a US college, technical or trade school. Postgraduate study such as a law degree or Masters degree also qualifies.

3. You must be 21 years of age or older on or before July 1, 2011.

2. Email your completed entry form as an MS Word attachment to the email address at bipolar-lives.com provided in the entry form by 9pm Eastern Time, June 1, 2011.

3. You MUST use "Scholarship Application" as the subject line of your email. Entries with other subject lines will not be opened.

4. You must be able to open the attached .txt entry form, complete it, and email it back as an MS Word attachment. We do not accept any other type of word processing attachments and are not able to assist you with any computer or software troubleshooting. No emails asking for assistance or alternatives will be answered.

5. Winner(s) will be notified by email on June 29, 2011. If this email is not acknowledged and replied to with a confirmation of the winner's name and address within 36 hours, the prize will be forfeit and will instead be awarded to the next applicant in the judging panel's order of merit.

6. Winner(s) will be announced on www.bipolar-lives.com July 1, 2011.

7. Your entry must be 450 - 900 words long.

8. Not all entries will be published on the Bipolar Lives website. However, all entries will be considered for the final award of the scholarship.

9. Submissions may be edited for spelling or grammar and to suit the style of the site.

10. All entries MUST BE YOUR ORIGINAL WORK - not copied from somewhere else!

11. Your entry should contain useful and interesting info on bipolar disorder, for example (but not limited to) one of the following topics:

- nutrition and bipolar disorder

- symptoms of bipolar disorder

- bipolar disorder treatments

- bipolar treatment centers

- dual diagnosis treatment centers

- new research-based information on bipolar disorder and/or treatments

- diagnosing bipolar disorder

- bipolar disorder and history

- bipolar disorder and creativity

- the bipolar spouse

- families and bipolar disorder

- is bipolar a disability?

Please note: What we want is factual, useful, insightful info on bipolar disorder, NOT personal stories. The 2010 winning entries from T.K. on bipolar diagnosis and S.B. on the use of mood trackers illustrate what is meant by this.

The bipolar scholarships entries we publish may be commented on by others visiting your page, so let your friends and family know about it. However, the final winner will be decided by the judging panel based purely on merit and chance plays no part.
