Lithium Orotate Comments

by Alana
(US)

Hi Sarah,
I just read your excerpt about extreme anxiety/panic attacks. I've suffered from the same kids of panic/anxiety attacks. I get to the point where I can't swallow, and then I can't catch my breath. If I have an attack in the night, I begin to feel as if I'm going to have a heart attack. All of that said, I've been on Zoloft for anxiety and panic attacks for some time. A friend, who is a naturopath, recommended Lithium Orotate during a time when I was weaning myself off of Zoloft to begin another treatment.
I take 4 120 mg. tabs of lithium orotate daily and it's been amazing. I feel better than I ever have! I haven't had an anxiety/panic attack for months and I sleep soundly at night. I don't feel sluggish or drowsy, but well rested. I can't tell you how long it's been since I had a good nights sleep that left me rested. I don't know what others have experienced with Lithium Orotate, but for me, it's been great.
Sincerely, Alana

Don't use lithium orotate contrary to doctor's advice
by: Sarah from Bipolar Lives

Hi
DO NOT use lithium orotate in conjunction with tradtional lithium carbonate and NEVER use it if explicitly advised not to by your doctor. Looking through these comments it seems there is some anecdotal support for lithium orotate but also some negatives. I am going to close comments on this now. There are dangers with this supplement - after all it is still lithium and still not enough reliable studies to be sure, I don't want to encourage use when individual experiences are so variable.

mixing the meds with Lithium
by: Anonymous

trying to get my Bipolar II teen off the terrible and recently near fatal prescription meds that he has tried and now we are currently taking Effexor and Lithium with xanex for the bad days and nothing but prayers for the good ones-if he has them. Question is can he take the LO with the Lithium carbonate and Effexor while lowering the dose of the prescription meds and leaning more and hopefully completely on the Lithium Orotate? I keep googling and blogging and can't get a straight answer. His doctor of course is TOTALLY against the LO so there is no answer there. Please someone let me know if this is something that they have done or a website to check and compare. I would never want to do anything that would make his life any worse than the BPD has already done.

Going to try this over the next week or so and let you know
by: Jonny

Hi, Ive had Bipolar for over 20 years and I tend to rapid cycle. I recently got rediagnosed with bipolar 2 in 2009. I was on medication for at least 8 years and have been free from meds though battling for 15 years. Ive recently been struggling over the last 4 years and have periodically tried such things as quetiopiene and olanzapine and Ive recently been given sodium valproate. Im not keen on having any of these chemicals in my body though Im aware that it may become a necessity. Im planning on trying the Lithium Orotate and will see how it goes. Ive mainly been able to balance my cycles by avoiding stress, eating healthily, keeping fit, physically working, monotoring my sleep etc, using light therpay in winter, all the usual things that are important if you suffer with Bipolar.
Anyway Im going to order this and try it over the next week or so and I will repost my results as honestly and openly as I can as I think its important that others gain the benefit of this supplement if it works ... lets hope so

LiO has been a mircle for me
by: NJAnonymous1

I had a couple bouts of depression in my life that lasted a couple weeks and then passed. However, a couple years ago, I went into a serious depression + anxiety (due to back condition diagnosis) that lasted several weeks and I could hardly sleep at all (I took about every sleep medication you could think of, but still could not sleep). After a few weeks, woke up one morning and felt great for about a week (slept well too). Then, for the past couple years I would cyclically go through about 2 or 3 good weeks, followed by 2 bad weeks. Tried numerous SSRI's as well As TCA's - none really helped except for effexor in low dose (only helped somewhat). I was pretty sure I was now Bipolar or at least cyclothymic - doctors did not agree. Even when I was feeling "good" I always feared when the "bad" would come back. Even on good days I was always anxious in the morning and always had problems focusing. Anyway, I purchased some LiO a couple weeks ago and started taking 120mg every morning. Its been like a miracle! Sleep is about 80% improved, Wake up calm, feel relaxed, can focus, no fogginess, no anxiety, no depression. I'll swear by this stuff - I strongly reccommend that everyone at least try it. (I'm also still taking about 37.5mg of Effexor and 0.5mg of klonopin a day - but will soon start fazing them out altogether)

No weight gain
by: Anonymous

I have been taking LO for over a year, no weight gain, in fact I have been losing weight. It quells the desire for alchol and drugs too. It has helped my life and marriage to no end!!!
Wish I had found this years and years ago. I have had NO side effects at all, nothing except that I feel happy. X xx

Lithium Orotate - day 23
by: Stressed in NJ

Day 23 and still doing great. I tried to drop down another 5mg on Lexapro on day 15 but started feeling a bit off. Still on 10mg, but have bumped up LithOr to 1-1/2 pills twice a day.
Is all goes well, I will try and move to 5mg of Lex next week.
No bad side effects. I am sleeping great and have quite vivid dreams.
Have not needed to take a Xanax in 2 weeks. Usually took about 3 per week.
Overall, I have been very productive lately. My wife says I am experiencing a placebo effect. I doubt that is the case, but even it is was, I am fine with that. My brain thinks it is good and that is good enough for me :-)

Day 7
by: Anonymous

I am stunned at how calming/stabilizing this is. I don't ever remember feeling this calm. EVER. Diagnosed bipolar 2/PMDD 20 years ago. Tried everything in the pharma cabinet and most everything was simply disabling and thus useless. I stopped everything 13 years ago after having ECT with horrible aftermath.

I have been largely high functioning since away from psych meds (fish oil, light therapy, intense exercise) though my depressions are severe (October, January, April -like clock work). I do have some hypomania, but I keep it under control with extra sleep (benadryl/occasional sleeping pill).

But 7 days on LO (twice a day) and I feel great. I so hope this continues. I could kick myself for not trying this sooner.

Oh, and I haven't had a glass of wine in a week, not because I decided to give it up, it just hasn't occured to me! That NEVER happens.

Today is day 9.
Feeling great. Went down on Lexapro from 15mg to 10mg 3 days ago. No withdrawal issues at all. Usually I start getting a bit twitchy after 36 hours if I change the dosage.
Still keeping with 120mg in the AM and PM.

Lithium Orotate
by: Stressed in NJ

I have been a bit skeptical of this supplement, but after doing a few weeks of research, I figured I would try it out for a week before making any judgements.
Day 1:
Took 120mg at 8am. Rest of the day I felt a little off, but since most prescription drugs do this, I figured I would continue.

Day 2:
120mg at 8am. Felt fine during the day, no side positive or negative side effects.
120mg at 8pm. No change.

Day 3:
120mg 8am&pm. Felt a little more energized in the AM. Anxiety was minimal. Went to bed at night and felt asleep quickly and relaxed.

Day 4:
120mg 8am&pm. Feel great. Minimal anxiety today even though the day has stress. Also noticed today that the 10 digit random codes I always have to write down at work are being remembered. Usually I write them down, then go onto another system and enter them from the paper. Not sure if it is the lack of anxiety or a direct result of the Lithium Orotate, but the enhanced memory is a big bonus.

Day 5:
120mg 8am
Feel great today. Usually getting up is an hour long process or hitting the snooze button. Today up and moving in 5 minutes. Very impressed with the supplement. Still feeling good. Going to moderate myself over the next few weeks then report back.
Started off skeptical of Lithium Orotate. Now Iam getting skeptical of pharma and doctors :-)
Why does no one know about this as an option?

There is Hope
by: Wayne

I have been on Lithium Orotate since May 2012. It was perscribed by a Orthomolecular Doctor. Needless to say I was Very skeptical since I have never used any Lithium before. I was on Klonopin for 12 yrs for GAD and finally got off July 4 2011. 7 months later had a relapse, visiting ER and Panic Attacks around the clock. I could not imagine going back on Meds after the brutal withdraws I suffered. So I found this Doctor and he put me on several supplements. I took what he prescribed except the Lithium due to fear and the what ifs. Finally I took 1 pill (120mg) and I had terrible Anxiety which scared me!!! But after tons of hrs on the internet researching the pros and cons, I decided to try again. This time I crushed the pill up and divided into capsules and found the right dosage which is 1/4 of a 120mg tablet once in the morning after breakfast. Benefits: No foggy thinking, remember things now, Panic Attacks went from all day every day stuck in my house to 1 or 2 panic attacks a month. I can get out of my house, I can drive, and even go to Wal-Mart when its busy, without a panic attack. It gives me energy, but a calm focused energy. Better comprehension and so on. The only thing you have to watch is too make sure you get enough water intake as you can get dehydrated. This seems to be the only side effect for me anyway, which is nothing compared to all that I experienced with anti-depressants and Anxiety Meds I have taken through the years. Finally, I wished everything could be solved through a pill, but it can not! It helps, but its just another step in the process to total recovery. Learning the right way to think, and how to act or react, I believe is the final step! May God help us!

Week 7 on Lithium Orotate and still ok
by: Anonymous

Not sure if i was bipolar or what before (the ex thought i was and it kind of stuck in my mind for a while. I have a degree in psych which hasn't exactly helped me figure stuff out (more confuse me), but it got me thinking yet again). Looking back, moods have always been pretty crazy and i was very irritable and my thoughts would race terribly. I'd looked into stuff before, but i'd somehow never be able to stay focused or been able to do anything about it in the past (scared of shrinks out to kill my soul i guess). After a bit of googling to see if i could buy lithium (great idea - i realise now you can't!), i found lithium Orotate. I didn't really care if it was a bit crazy to self-diag, but i did plenty of research first. The first one i took seemed to melt right through my brain - i was to say the least hopeful (but placebo wary). It's been 7 weeks now and i just take one first thing, then one in the late afternoon. I'm pretty sensitive and i found taking more than 2 a day overwhelm me. Some of the effects i've observed are decreased light sensitivity and less distraction to noise, which is a godsend. Seem to be sleeping a lot better, which is great. I can still think pretty fast, but i can stay focused on the subject a lot easier now. I'm very hopeful for the future now, so fingers crossed and thanks to all of you who have posted your experiences as it gave me the confidence to try it.

Headaches from Lithium Orotate
by: Anonymous

I've been reading a lot about Lithium Orotate so decided to try it for depression. I have never found anything that really helps my depression and it sounded promising. They also say it helps migraines which I have. I started taking 5 mg at night and immediately started sleeping and feeling better but it gives me headaches. I was having to take one migraine pill after the other to keep rid of my migraines while taking it. To my great dismay, I had to stop taking it. I could not afford to have my head ache all the time and regular meds don't help. I have to take Zomig. Has anyone else had this problem while taking the Lithium Orotate?

Update from Feb 6 post
by: Anonymous

Hello. I thought I had updated this earlier, but apparently not. First, for those who have asked about stopping prescription medicine and taking this--ask your doctor first. I know that is weird to say seeing as how I blasted my doctor and stopped taking my meds. Still, that was in college. And while I have sympathy regarding doctors with no bedside manner and doctors who dismiss over the counter answers too quickly, I have learned that stopping prescription meds cold turkey is generally not a good thing to do. So, I seriously recommend asking first and at least taking the doctor's advice under consideration even if you don't follow it exactly.

My update is that I still like the lithium orotate. I am still taking it. But circumstances in my life have changed. I was on the pill for less than a week when my husband came home from the doctor (he visited as soon as his new medical insurance kicked in as I insisted upon it) and said he had a tumor. We then went back and forth for weeks trying to get a firm diagnosis. He finally found out he had throat cancer even though he never really smoked. So he has now finished cancer treatments and is on his way to recovery, but it is going really, really slowly. Obviously, with this kind of stress, I have had to increase my dose from 2 a day to 4 or 6, depending on the day. I've decided not to go past 6, even if it is technically safe. Any remaining stress I try to treat with tea and all natural stress relief pills.

So, clearly the lithium orotate is not going to be the magic bullet for over the top stressful periods of time. Then again, what is? I'm still taking it. I still plan on taking it. As a matter of fact, I would like to see a psychologist but hesitate to do so for fear he will send me to a shrink who will want me to stop the lithium orotate and put me back on the carbonate that I can't stand. But all in all, I still think the lithium orotate is a good thing. Without it, I can just imagine how much worse off I would be as I see my husband through his medical crisis.

This is really calming
by: Sarah

I have just taken my 1st LiOr about 30 mins ago and feel very calm and relaxed, almost a little too sleepy. I had read a very good review about it (I stumbled across it by chance) and that it is safe to take. I have depression and am rather fed up with traditional Anti-Depressants due to STILL feeling not 100%. I noticed after 15 mins feeling very calm and searched on how long LiOr takes to work: Well the evidence is here in many testimonials. I'm going to write back over the couple of days and weeks to report any other significant changes. I am hopeful :-)

My teenage son is on lithium carbonate and we have been very concerned by all the side effects. We just found out about lithium orotate and have ordered some. Can we safely switch from one to the other? I would love to hear from someone who has switched from the carbonate to the orotate.
Thanks!

Lithium orotate has been a god send for me
by: Anonymous

I was diagnosed as bipolar 15 years ago during my first year of college, but I hated my psychiatrist (who was pompous and wouldn't listen to me--no bedside manner) and my mom didn't support my diagnosis, so I didn't take my prescription lithium for very long. After I stopped taking it, I went into denial about my diagnosis. But things got better. I got through college and did quite well. I went into grad school. Didn't graduate (not related to bipolar). Then started a new graduate program and did graduate. Since then, I've had many ups and downs related to the economic problems of 2008-present. My career is probably DOA now. My husband and I were both out of work at the same time for over a year. He was unemployed for a year before that while I worked a demeaning, low paying temp job I hated. When my temp job ended, we were so broke we had to move in with my parents. I'd had severe insomnia before, but it really got bad in those 2 years. My husband got a job after being out of work 2 years and 2 months. I am still not working. The insomnia got somewhat better. I could fall asleep but I couldn't stay asleep. I would wake up with racing thoughts. It took a while to connect it in my mind with bipolar disorder, but to be fair, it was the insomnia which first led to my diagnosis in college. I stumbled across lithium orotate at a website where I order most of my all natural skin care for low prices. I got 10 pills for a free trial--125 mg lithium orotate with 5 mg of active lithium. Within an hour of taking the first pill, I felt calmer. I had my first good night's sleep in forever and a day. I experimented with the dose and have decided on taking 1 pill in the morning and 1 at night for the time being. It really helped. And I don't think it is a placebo effect as I was taking tons of all natural sleeping pills. They didn't help me sleep or calm me down, but this did. I am a believer. I hope they never take it off the market. From what I recall with the prescription lithium, it turned me into a zombie. This doesn't do that. It just makes me feel like I can handle everyday life. I might just take it forever. If it makes me feel better, why not?

To John
by: Rita

Hey John I get the same effect from LO. Isn't it amazing! I wish I had found out about Lithium Orotate years ago. My life has changed completely. I have never been diagnosed with BP, but something called dissociative, but my husband says he alway thought maybe I was Bipolar. This is the first time in my LIFE that I am able to deal with stress and problems like the rest of the world does, (well the normal people) sorta hate to say that, lol. My memory is really super now, I remember things that I cannot possibly have remembered in the past. I wonder if LO only works if you are BP. There is a man called Dr. John Gray, he talks about Lithium Orotate at length. That is how I found out about it. I so wonder why this is not given to more people. Good luck to everyone with this, it is life changing. Rita x

Lithium Orotate
by: john

I have been taking one tablet in the morning and one at night. The effect has been immediate. I am much calmer. No fogginess, better memory. Stressors that used to bother me just wash over me now. I can now engage people and work in stressful situations. It has changed my life. I was told on another forum that taking choline helps the absorption of the LiOr. I use soy milk and eat lots of fish and peanut butter, all which are rich in choline, so I am presuming that the LiOr is working more effectively due to this too.

I finally feel like a normal functioning human.
by: katibelle

For most of my life, I've dealt with lots of emotional problems that I knew couldn't be normal. To say I had mood swings would be an understatement. About ten days a month I would be on a strange emotional high; thrilled to be alive and I'd be very productive. I would sleep and eat very little. The rest of the time I would be extremely depressed and hopeless; unable to get get work done and sometimes even self inflicting. I'd have these odd surges of anger over silly things, and would cry hysterically over nothing.

I desperately wanted to get better, but I didn't want to see a therapist. In my search I came across Lithium Orotate, and I wish I had discovered it sooner. I finally, FINALLY feel better. I take two 120mg pills twice a day.

It took about two days for it to kick in. My moods are finally stable. I feel neither horrendously depressed nor overly happy. I can get work done without being obsessive about it. The random surges of anger and hysterical crying fits are gone. I have not once had the urge to self inflict, and my sleep schedule is finally normal.
I finally feel like a normal functioning human being.

The only noteable side affect is that I don't seem to be having periods anymore. Not even the normal bloating or cramping that I get before a period. I read somewhere that lithium affects the menstrual cycle though; so perhaps it's nothing to be alarmed over. (pregnancy is not possible.)

It seems to work for bipolar, but...
by: Anonymous

For five I'd been taking 900mg lithium carbonate daily for bipolar disorder. About a year ago my psychiatrist quit his practice and I couldn't find a replacement for him. Consequently, I was forced to find a non-prescription alternative.

After some research, I found LiOr on the web and decided to give it a try. I'm not the best judge of whether my medications are working, but my wife swears she can tell the difference. Since starting 360mg LiOr daily she says she sees no difference from the LiCa I was taking before. That's the good news.

Now here's the bad news. When getting my routine blood tests for my RA treatment, I asked the doctor to check for lithium level. He agreed. When the test came back it showed zero lithium in my blood.

So, my question is this, is the lithium orotate I'm taking nothing more than a placebo or is there something about Orotate that prevents it from being detected in a standard blood test? my_scrambler@yahoo.com

Lithium orotate is very good for me
by: nicholas

Helps my moods and lowers stress. I have not experienced a single episode of racing thoughts with anxiety since starting this 9 months ago. Tried to go off it a couple of weeks ago. Horrible depression followed!
Luckily it lifted very quickly (2 days something) when I took the pills again. Dose varies around 2-4 120 mg pills daily.
Oh... And I am definitely on the bipolar spectrum after suffering a manic psychosis while using zoloft. Definitely worth trying!
I don´t understand the fear around this. 2 pills daily is 8-10 mg of elemental lithium. Not even a tenth of a regular dose of carbonate!
Don´t be afraid! Be well :D

by: Anonymous

Lithium Orotate does NOT cause brain damage. I could say that maybe it did not agree with the person who wrote this post, but brain damage that is a real stretch. There is NO proof that it causes brain damage, and the opposite has been found, it helps brain cells. Perhaps the person who wrote the post about brain damage was damaged by something else.

Lithium Orate Serious Harm
by: Suzette

While taking Lithium Orate instead of Lithium Carbonate for the first time it caused serious, permanent brain damage. As my new current doctor said, Lithium Carbonate can cause brain damage especially as you get older. I see a referring specialist in September 2011. My family doctor's focus of brain damage is the organ in the brain, the hypothalmus. Because of Lithium Orate I now have to live the rest of my life with serious brain damage and serious complications, miserable, etc. I warn from it's use for anyone. There is NOT enough research on Lithium Orate and adverse events, etc. Look what happen to me. My biggest regret in my lifetime is stumbling up Lithium Orate.

Dosage of Lithium Orotate
by: Anonymous

I take two in the morning and if I feel stressed I take two more in the evening. I think the more you take the more calming effect it has. And when I am getting those cycling thoughts and racing heart that is what I want is calm. I think you sorta have to see what dose is good for you. I also take zinc and fish oil and magnesium and I am sure those also help. Four Lithium Orotate a day is not a huge amount. I sorta do not think you can overdose on that amount, from what I have read. When I first started taking it I was sorta hyper, and not used to feeling good, but I have leveled out quite a bit now and just get on with what I need to do without going out of my mind. I did suggest LO to friends of mine, but they did not do well on them, I think maybe you might have to be BiPolar or have depression for them to work correctly. I am not sure I need to take them everyday, but now I am afraid to ever stop. Hope this helps any one with dosage.
Sincerely,
Rita

Lithium Orotate dosages and experiences for bipolar
by: mynamehere

I've been looking for a name for my troubles for years, trying to make depression and anxiety fit. I'm leaning toward mild-ish bipolar. I do have a bit of family history for it.
Anyway, I've been using LiOr and Lithium Aspartate for 5 weeks, but I'm not sure how things are going. I started with Aspartate, one a day (5mg of lithium). Felt very little, but perhaps more calm. I think I noticed a bump in energy a couple hours after taking it, too. I moved to 10mg, but got a bit freaked out by the relation of Aspartate to Aspartame. I moved to Orotate and things settled a bit (orotate says its 120mg, but of that only 5mg is Li). My peaks were knocked down a bit, but was still getting some strong lows. I upped to 15mg, one pill 3X daily. I could get out of lows more easily, but still getting low rapidly from small triggers.
Now I've moved to 4 pills, 20mg. I've been taking 2x in the morning and 2x at night, but have started to notice severe grogginess/fogginess in thought, and the feeling like I've only slept 2 hours even after an 8 hour sleep. Shaky, weak, confused with a headache, unable to speak. I find this makes me more irritated than I was prior to starting the Lithium.
I'm going to try to space them out over 4 doses rather than just 2, but has anyone else found this? Is this a sign for the upper limit of dosage?

Lithium Orotate made me a new person
by: Reet

This is my second bottle of Lithium O, so I guess I have been on it about 3 months. I am a new person, for the better. Gone are the dark horrible, negative, thoughts, unbearable mood swings, and all the rest. I have so much energy now, I can do all the things I need to and feel happy about doing them. This stuff has saved my life, honestly. Wish I would have found them earlier. When I was younger I was on every anti-depressant going, I hated them. As the years went on, I found it harder to feel happy about anything at all. I love my life now, my marriage is 5,000 times better. I sing, and do not get angry about anything. No stresses. I guess this is what normal people feel like. No wonder some people seem to have a happy life, Now I am one of those, yippee!! It works so so good, two or three a day.

Psoriasis not caused by lithium orotate?

I haven't heard anything about orotate and psoriasis. I have been taking orotate (2 tablets in the morning, 2 in the afternoon) for 3 months now and have not dealt with any psoriasis. Same for several family members. I have excema of the scalp and ear canal and have not experienced any flare ups since I started taking this. Good Luck.

Is lithium orotate a Psoriasis trigger?
by: Anonymous

Hello,
I would like to try Lithium Oorotate but am too scared after reading on GOOGLE that Lithium (including orotate) can trigger psoriasis. I would like to ask if anyone here trying it has experinced this and if so, did it dissapear after stopping the Lithium orotate? I am wondering if perhaps Inositol would cancel out this trigger factor? Thank you!

Lithium Orotate Still Working Well
by: Wayne

Well, I just wanted to post again with an update to my last post. 3 days ago I increased my dosage to 4 pills a day(2 morning,2evening). I will say this stuff definitely crosses the blood brain barrier. I am currently in a very calm, relaxed, and sleepy state much more so than when I was taking two pills a day. Don't give up hope, do you research and consider giving lithium orotate a try. So far so good for me. I have been bipolar for so long that I don't know what a normal mental state is like. Hopefully this is it, and it continues to work.

Trying Lithium Orotate
by: Wayne

I've been taking lithium orotate for a week now. I have been diagnosed as being bipolar. I have the manic episodes a lot more than I get the depressive side. The first day of taking the lithium orotate, within the first couple hours, I noticed a unique calming effect which a few hours later made me sleepy. So far I give it a thumbs up. I am taking one pill in the morning and evening. I think I will up my dosage in the near future if required.

I have suffered for years from episodic drinking bouts moods swings that change with each season migraines and severe periods of restlesness/agitation or apathy. All gone with one fell swoop in Lithium orotate. Un-bloody-believable in my book!!! I dont know if I have bipolar or not but whatever I had this took care of it.

Fingers Crossed
by: Anonymous

Hi, I don't remember how i stumbled over Lithium Orotate, but my husband was feeling overwhelemed which he does often, he started taking two 120 mg tabs a day and after only a day or two noticed a difference. I decided to try some myself and same thing, aft one day I feel I had more control of my emotions (which are usually like a roller coaster) and they can switch quite suddenly.I started thinking about my cousin who was diagnosed as bi-polar and when I gave thought to many family members, realized that we all display these characteristics (as well as my 15 yr old son). Gave him some L/O 3 days ago and we notice he laughs at things he would normally get angry about and he is more conversational, and usually if we are in public, he gets really angry if any of us laugh out loud or say things a little louder than normal conversational tone, but he was actually joining in!!! I will be happy forever if this straigtens out his difficulties! sorry for the long post. good luck to all of you.

Works for me!
by: Serenit

I was diagnosed with Cyclothymia about 6 years ago. I really did not like the idea of taking chemical lithium to treat it, so after doing some research I discovered lithium orotate. Within a few weeks I could feel a difference in my emotional state. I felt more balanced. After 6 months I had only had one cyclothymic episode. Now after 6 years I only have to take the lithium orotate about 4 times a week to maintain a good level in my system, unless I'm under a lot of stress when I go back to daily doses and may even increase from my usual 3 up to 4 tabs per day. I've had zero negative side effects and, trust me, do not miss the havoc caused when my cyclothymia was active. The few times I've had an episode over the years were due to either having become lax in taking the lithium or were triggered by traumatic events. I am so grateful I found something natural that works to control my (supposedly mild) bipolar disorder! And I have no qualms about taking it for the rest of my life as long as it means I don't go back to the craziness I experienced before taking lithium orotate.

Long Time Lithium Orotate consumer
by: Anonymous

I was prescribed as Bi-Polar back in 1995 and was prescribe Lithium Carbonate. My whole life changed for the better because for the first time in my life, I was able to hold a job down without getting frustrated and quitting or getting fired within a year or so. It was around 2002 that I discovered Lithium orotate as an alternative to the much more expensive prescribed carbonate. The first thing I noticed was that the effect was much quicker to kick in the the carbonate and there by I was able to control my mood swings quickly if I forgot to take a pill. The other thing I notice is that I don't have the roller coaster efect I was getting from the Time released Lithium Carbonate, because of its slower uptake and faster burn rate requiring a lot more lithium. ALL in all, I won't look back and choose to stay with Lithium Orotate over the the carbonate. Less noticieable mood swings, faster rresponse, and less lithium dosage required. Oh.. the cost is considerabley less. A $20 bottle of 200 tables last me 3 mos at 2 per day. Calcium Carbonate at my prescribed levels was $38 for one just month supply.

Mood swings
by: Anonymous

Hi. I have been a heavy meth user for 15 years. I quit using 49 days ago, cold turkey. My mood swings were unmanagable, until about three weeks ago when I started taking Litium Ortate. I take 2 130mg a day and I feel almost normal. If anyone is trying to escape the hell of drug addiction, I highly recommend trying this product. It has helped me get my life back.

Calming but lithium orotate makes me sleepy
by: Anonymous

I have been trying L.O. for 3 days now. So far it is very calming. The only problem is I slept 5 hours this afternoon which I never do. I am so sleepy it is very very unusual for me - but I am totally relaxed. I have never had depression problems only a highly active brain (mania?).

Take every day for Bi-Polar
by: Christopher

This stuff really works! If you drink caffeine, then up your dosage. If you smoke you better take more LiOr as well. This works for bipolar, but make sure you take the right dose or you could end up in the hospital. PEACE OUT!

Amazing
by: Kim

I have suffered from anxiety and depression for about 25 years. I was recently diagnosed with Bipolar 2 and given a RX for Lamictal and Klonopin. The Lamictal did NOT help and though the Klonopin did, it comes with it's own problems (can be addictive, only a short term help, makes me sleepy). So I started working on finding a better alternative. I had doubts about the Lithium Orotate, but was willing to try it since most people reported no side effects. Within 2 days I was feeling sooooo much better emotionally, but had a killer headache every day. My therapist said to give it a full two weeks, so I did....and by the end of that 2 weeks the headaches stopped. YAY!! I am only have to take one tablet every morning and I feel more normal than I ever have. Never feel depressed or hopeless or overwhelmed anymore. My family can tell a huge difference, too.

If only I had known about this years ago.....

So far so good for us
by: Anonymous

Hi. Regarding the safety of lithium orotate as compared with the carbonate form: I don't know for sure, but it appears to me that most of the web search hits on lithium toxicity at therapeutic doses, are citing lithium carbonate toxicity data, not lithium orotate. This seems to occur even when the article in question refers over and over to lithium orotate.

Not sure, but that's how it appeared.

I have only been using lithium orotate for a couple of days, but so far so good. I was basically freaking out for the week before, about a lot of family stuff, and was having so much anxiety that I felt like I was about to trigger a major colitis attack or something. I actually had bought 2 bottles of lithium orotate to give to friends who might be interested. But then I decided to try it out on myself and my 18-year-old kid.

The effects have been pretty astounding. Two days ago I was barely functional -- totally stressed out, and my nephew has been very edgy and distant lately. We took it yesterday and today and on both days the time we have spent together has been delightful. I have been able to stay calm very consistently, and he has been very agreeable, cooperative, conversational, and seemingly quite focused. Time will tell, but it has been great so far.

He is also taking high-EPA fish oil, and I have also been taking magnolia officinalis.

Good luck to everyone.

Lithium Bicarbonate
by: ANH

I take lithium carbonate tables and I take 900 miligrams a day and I know that seems like a lot but if it gets the job done. Lithium has been the reason that I have been able to not only be a normal teenager but procede into normal adulthood as I just turned 19 Friday.

Lithium orotate can be dangerous
by: T.B.N.

Didn't someone die recently (2008? 2009?) from taking too much lithium orotate? Maybe it can be effective and a good alternative to some of the medications, but it is still lithium and toxic if you do not monitor the dose.
