Making extra income from your own websiteInterested in making extra income? The best way I know how is to earn extra income online. Elsewhere on my website I offer some other extra income ideas - all things I have tried over the years that have succesfully seen me through hard times. As I get older I find that it is better to work smarter, not harder, where making extra income is concerned. If you read my "About Me" page you know that not only am I bipolar, but that I have had manic episodes where I have done some very dumb things with money. Frankly, my manic craziness took me from being financially secure to a place where I desperately needed money. My dream was to try and regain some of that lost ground by making extra income with my own business. After all my manic screw-ups I badly needed a financial do-over, and I kept dreaming of being my own boss. For me, an important part of staying well is limiting as many stressors and triggers as I can. Working from home on something I am passionate about seemed perfect. My dream of rebuilding my self-respect became a reality. It came about through building this website - and discovering I could also build a profitable business at the same time. Imagine if YOU could take your hobby or passion one step further and make it into a business where you earn money for your efforts. When I started creating this website, my focus was on sharing my story and as much useful information about bipolar disorder as possible. But I was broke! I was so short of money that even paying for cheap web hosting was a challenge. So I started looking around for a
website business model that MADE money instead of COSTING money.
How did I do it? You are looking at it! I learned to build a money-making website! Like hundreds of thousands - maybe even millions - of people with their own websites, it is possible for me to make money through Google and other advertisers. You may have noticed that some of my web pages carry ads for products and services to do with bipolar disorder and related topics that may be of interest to my readers. Well, when when one these gets a click, I get paid.
There are dozens - maybe 100s of ways of making extra income online. (You probably get spammed about some of the less ethical ways all the time!) One of the easiest is ways is to build a beautiful and professional website about something that really interests you, and use Google AdSense to earn advertising revenue. What I have described here is the way I HAVE MADE MONEY MYSELF AND CAN SPEAK ABOUT FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE. Bipolar is a debilitating disease that can disrupt your work and be financially disasterous. Depending on where you are at, this may or may not be suitable for you. Working from home gets rid of a lot of stress and triggers - but it can also add some new ones. For example, it does require determination and self-belief. This may be too much effort if you are in the middle of a bad episode. However, if you are getting well and just need to find a way to catch up from your financial mistakes, like I did, then it is well worth a try. The combination of Site Build It! and Google AdSense has worked well for me because it leaves me free to focus on what I like to do - create webpages on the Bipolar Lives website on topics that interest me and that I know to be important. There are lots of other forms of web-hosting, blogging, and advertising that can also be combined in a money making combination if you have a topic that fascinates you and that you love to write about. Just STEER CLEAR OF THE GET RICH QUICK SCHEMES! I cannot emphasize this enough. As many of you know, it has taken me a couple of years to get my website to this point. Maybe someone else could have done it faster and be making the kinds of ridiculous amounts of money you see bandied about in spam emails or other sleazy Internet money making schemes. For me it has been slow and steady and although I know people who make much more income off their websites than I do, none of them do anything shonky. They stick to building websites about the things they are passionate about and let the money take care of itself through passive means like selling advertising or e-Books and other information products that are directly relevant to their readers, and which they know to be of true value. Although I am a strong believer in using the Internet for making extra income, I do not think that going into some get rich quick pyramid scheme ever turns into a credible, honorable, or sustainable business. Leave that for the sharks - there are plenty out there. What to look for: 1. A topic you have a passionate interest in (otherwise writing about it will become boring and difficult). 2. A way of "monetizing" your website that comes naturally and does not require you to do unethical things such as spam or pyramid schemes. 3. Value for money webhosting and other services such as templates for your webpages so that you do not need to learn any programing or technical skills (unless you want to). What to avoid: ANYTHING THAT PROMISES INSTANT RICHES OR THAT SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE! Also, never forget that your goal is MAKING extra income - NOT SPENDING thousands of dollars on dubious internet marketing products with sexy names but no real business basis. The real experts are honest and reputable professionals and instead of charging sky high prices for their "amazing secrets" they usually sell their books openly and cheaply in bookstores and on Amazon.com. For example Joel Comm's book "Google AdSense Secrets" is $9.95 on Amazon, and Ewen Chia's "How I Made a Million Dollars on the Internet and You can Too" is around $12.
